Hola a todos,

En mi nombre y en el de todo mi equipo, queremos agradecer a todo el Departamento DISCA de la UPV, la confianza que han depositado en nosotros y en nuestro programa. Daremos lo mejor de nosotros para que, trabajando “codo con codo” con todos los miembros del DISCA, podamos seguir manteniendo el prestigio y la excelencia que el DISCA ha conseguido por méritos propios desde su constitución el 30 de octubre de 1985.

Finalmente, quisiera dar las gracias de forma pública a dos personas sin cuya confianza y enseñanzas en los últimos ocho años, hoy yo no estaría aquí, y no son otros que Pedro Gil y Pedro López.

Hola a todos,

Os quiero informar personalmente que he presentado mi candidatura oficial a Director del Departamento de Informática de Sistemas y Computadores (DISCA) de la Universitat Politècnica de València.

En base a la experiencia adquirida como Secretario del Departamento en los últimos años, tengo  la convicción personal de estar plenamente capacitado para liderar las diferentes tareas de gobierno departamental del DISCA desde el primer momento. Esta capacidad que siento me hace estar motivado e ilusionado ante la posibilidad de dirigir a nuestro Departamento, lo cual sería para mi un tremendo orgullo y un auténtico privilegio.

Para desarrollar un programa de gobierno como el que hemos preparado para el Departamento se requiere de un equipo Competente y Motivado, junto al cual, a partir de Objetivos Claros y Trabajo en Equipo se pueda potenciar y poner en valor nuestra actividad docente e investigadora buscando siempre la Excelencia. Permitidme presumir que yo cuento con dicho equipo!

Nuestro programa se estructura alrededor de tres pilares básicos:

1. Promover un entorno de trabajo que  favorezca la Excelencia, la Calidad  y el Reconocimiento
2. Desarrollar una acción de gobierno cercana a las personas y a los problemas
3. Representar al Departamento ante los diferentes órganos de la Universidad defendiendo siempre sus intereses

Si os apetece recibir información concreta de nuestro programa de Gobierno, os invito a una charla el próximo Jueves día 7 de junio a las 12h30 en el Aula 0.1 del edificio 1.E (antigua Facultad de Informática) en la que  presentaré el equipo que me acompaña y detallaré las líneas de actuación y los compromisos de gobierno que, en el caso de contar con el apoyo del Departamento,  desarrollaremos durante los próximos cuatro años.

May 15th 2012, the committee who evaluated the best PhD Thesis at the UPV in 2011, awarded PhD. Francisco Martinez with the prize to the best PhD Thesis by his thesis entitled “Improving Vehicular Ad Hoc Network Protocols to Support Safety Applications in Realistic Scenarios”. Currently, Dr. Francisco Martinez holds an Associate Professor Position at the Zaragoza University in Spain.

Andrea has obtained the second position in Katas in the category of eight and nine years mixed of the Comunidad Valenciana Karate championship, which was held in the city of Alberic, May 12^th , 2012. Congratulation my dear cute Andrea!

Sunday 13th  2012, Andrea and dad enjoyed with Levante during the last match of the 2012 championship. It was great since next year Levante will play in the Europe League. At the end of the match all the supporters when into the field to celebrate the brilliant  championship.

May 11th I took part of the Committee who evaluated the PhD thesis of Jesus Llor from Miguel Hernandez University in Spain. The thesis entitled “Realistic Acoustic Prediction Models to Efficiently Design Higher Layer Protocols in Underwater Wireless Sensor Networks” The thesis addresses the important problem of predicting the acoustic signal attenuation efficiently, and reducing the needed time to perform realistic simulations.

Based on the quality and significant contributions made by the thesis developed by Jesus Llor the committee graded the Thesis with the maximum grade of “CUM LAUDE”. Congratulations Jesus!!

I had the opportunity to meet my colleagues Mel and Francisco as well as enjoying “El Huerto del Cura” hotel and the gastronomic delicatessen of Elche de Alicante.

I attended to the2012 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC 2012), which took place at the Palais de Congrès in the magnificent city of Paris. I acceded to my Hotel located near the Arc de Triomphe by RER, the most convenient way to reach Paris Downtown from Charles the Gaulle Airport. Here you can see the Palais des Congrès, located 5mn from the Arc de Triomphe and the famous Avenue Champs Elysées.

I enjoyed quite a lot the Conference attending to two great keynote speeches given by Prof. Andrea Goldsmith, Standford University, and Dr. Siavash Alamouti, Group R&D Director, Vodafone. I also enjoyed a lot presenting our two papers in the Technical sessions program of the conference. I also had time to visit Paris and enjoy with French food and wines. I had the opportunity to visit the Paris City Hall at the Welcome Reception of the Conference. It was Great!

The Banquet of the Conference took place at the Pavillon Dauphine where I met some Irani, French, American, and Japanise colleagues. We enjoyed not only with the food but also with the Cancan French show. Superb!

Last March 13th I took part of the committee who evaluated the PhD thesis of Carlos Lino, which was supervised by professor Carlos Calafate and Professor Arnoldo Díaz. The thesis entitled  «Diseño de una arquitectura para redes de sensores con soporte para aplicaciones de detección de eventos» deals with the optimization of routing protocols for sensors networks dealing with fire, gas and intruders detection.

Last March 6th I took part of the Committee who evaluated the PhD thesis of Francisco González from Málaga University in Spain, which was supervised by my friend and colleague Prof. Eduardo Casilari. The thesis entitled “Estudio y Mejora de los Mecanismos de Cache en Redes Inalámbricas Ad Hoc” deals with the optimization of cache mechanism applied to Mobile Ad Hoc Networks to improve network efficiency.

The committee graded the Thesis with the maximum grade of “CUM LAUDE”. Congratulations Francico!!

I had the opportunity to meet again my colleagues Eduardo, Alfonso, Alicia y Jose Manuel as well as enjoying Malaga downtown with my colleague Prof. Ana Pont and the gastronomic delicatessen of the region of Málaga visiting the “Escuela de Hostelería La Cónsula”.

Saturday, march 3, 2012 we spend a great day in Javalambre Sky resort. It was a funny day with our best friends Juan Luis and Patricia. It was so fun for Andrea Vanesa, Ruben and Paula who enjoyed doing ski, sleds, and snowman. The ski resort offer outstanding views over the Javalambre Mountain range both inside the tracks or just having a walk.
