The holiday of sawdust carpets in Elche de la Sierra is part of the celebrations of Corpus Christi. Its origin dates back to 1964, and it was an initiative of Don Francisco Fernández Carcelén. This holiday was declared of Regional Tourist Interest on March 28, 1994. The streets that form the route of the procession appears covered by a beautiful mosaic of rugs and carpets.

We have been attending to this holiday since i remember! Andrea, Vanesa and Turis have  had this year their first experiences in elaborating the sawdust carpets!

As every year, we enjoyed with La Volta a Peu Valencia. 8 km running activity around Valencia with more than 40.000 runners!. Andrea and Vanesa enjoyed a lot with mum and dad!

Juan-Carlos Cano attended to the XVII edition of the JENUI Conference on Teaching Computer Engineering in Universities degrees in Spain. JENUI 2011 was held in Seville, Spain July 2011. The main objective of the conference is to disseminate and put together experiences and innovations in teaching Computer Engineering by Spanish Universities. All the JENUI attendees had the opportunity to enjoy the wonderful city of Seville. We enjoyed La Giralda, Los Reales Alcazares,  Downtown Seville, La Torre del Oro, and of course Betis street at night!.

During the week from 6 to June 10, 2011, I gave the fourth edition of a ten-hour workshop on Ad Hoc Wireless Networks in the Official Master in Telecommunications Technology at the Higher Technical School of Telecommunications Engineering of the University of Malaga, Teatinos Campus. The workshop was funded by the Ministry of Education and Science, through the teacher mobility program. It was really a pleasure to meet again some colleagues there as well as enjoying Malaga’s aroma. Eduardo, Alicia, Alfonso and Jose Manuel Thank you so much for your hospitality!

June 2011, I attended the 12^th IEEE International Symposium on a World of Wireless Mobile and Multimedia Networks WoWMoM 2011, which was held in Lucca, Italy, from June 20-23, 2011. My first stop was in Pisa, where I flew directly from Valencia in a low cost fly (50 € roundtrip ticket) and where I spend two good days. It was my first time in Pisa but definitely it worth it. Of course I visited the DUOMO plaza where I enjoyed visiting St. Mary Cathedral, the Baptistery, The cemetery, and of course The Leaning Tower, WoW! It is simply Wonderful!!!.

I have also time to enjoy the city, the river’s parks, and so much the Toscana cuisine: Pizzas, Pasta, and yes Gelato!! I have also time to run around the city, here you can see my run in Pisa including the leaning tower (from Km 9 to Km 10), and at the end my Hotel, The Grand Bonnano Hotel which I could recommend to you, –> Check out the 10.73 km run I did with RunKeeper

After visiting Pisa I attended the WoWMoM Conference which took place in the historical and charming city of Lucca, at the very heart on Tuscany, Italy on June 20-23. I really enjoyed the city, the Toscana cuisine, of course the conference and specially biking around the city at night!

Andrea has obtained the third position in Katas and second position Kumite in the category up to eight year of the Comunidad Valenciana Karate championship, which was held in the city of Alberic, june 4th, 2011. Congratulation my dear cute Andrea!

The GRC and the WARG groups of the Computer Engineering Department at the Universitat Politècnica de València have organized the 10^th IFIF Networking Conference which took place at the beautiful city of Valencia, May 9th to 13th. More information at http://networking2011.org. The Conference was sponsored by the IFIP Technical Committee on Communication Systems.

The GRC and the DISCA Department attended to the second IEEE Conference on Using New Technologies for Fostering and Innovation in Engineering Education, (FINTDI 2011), which was held in Teruel, Spain, May 2011, and was broadcast live through Internet. We enjoyed Teruel architecture and gastronomy, and it was great to meet Paco as well as sharing fun with Pepe, Lenin, Ángeles, and Antonio.

Finally, I ran my first half marathon. It was on Sunday February 6, 2011 in La Pobla de Farnals. It was a funny day with Ximo and Javi.

Andrea was the winner in the category of up to eight years orange belt of the XXI edition of the Karate Shoto trophy of the city of Gandia 2011. The championship took place in the city of Gandía, February 13th, 2011. MUAAAAA Andrea!
